15 Books That Saved And Transformed My Life
Reading has been my refuge for as long as I can remember. I found myself in several of the books I have read over the years and I couldn’t imagine what my journey through personal and spiritual growth would look like without the profound impact, insight and positive mental and emotional influence of certain books.
There is a book on this list called Path To Truth that, in 2007, literally saved me from the depths of a spiritual crisis I was experiencing as a result of not feeling truly connected to Christian religious beliefs. I was questioning so many things about spirituality, society, life, the world; I was overwhelmed with confusion and uncertainty. This book, discussed topics like energy, Universal Law, spiritual identity, the power of thought, intuition and metaphysics, all to which I had a strong, intrinsic affinity for but, wasn’t confident in owning at the time. When I look back at the book now, I see a ton of editing errors and some ideals that do not 100 percent resonate, but at that time, it was EXACTLY what I needed, when I needed it.
I wanted to share this list (not exhaustive at all) because I get several questions a week about books that I have read related to spiritual and personal growth that have impacted my journey. So, here are 15! I truly hope this list and these books bless you. Share a comment below if some of these are also on your list or if you plan to add some to your library!
1. The Mastery Of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz
This beautiful book of stories that brings Ruiz’s message to life regarding shifting our perspective about being in relationship with others.
2. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
Such a classic. No real introduction needed. The Four Agreements are all about releasing self-limiting beliefs that create suffering in our human experience.
3. The Book Of Coming Forth By Day by Maulana Karenga
Also known as the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Coming Forth By Day recounts, in detail, the foundation of ancient Kemetic philosophy, spirituality and ethics, including the principles of Ma’at (the fundamental code of divine, natural and social order). This book was monumental in connecting my belief that human and divine are not separate.
4. Path To Truth by June Michael
The book that truly saved me from spiraling deeper into a spiritual crisis. Definitely a book for someone who is beginning their journey possibly shedding religious beliefs they not longer feel connected to.
5. Life Visioning by Michael Bernard Beckwith
This book was transformative because it offered a difference between visualizing and life visioning. So much spiritual insight and easily digestible nuggets to help awaken to a new way of navigating your life.
6. The Essential Rumi Translated by Coleman Barks
I mean, its Rumi. Beautiful poetry steeped in spiritual insight. Full transparency, some of it will make no sense to you (I think a lot of meaning is lost in the translation to English), but there are so many nuggets of live and spiritual insight.
7. Urban Shaman by Serge Kahili King
This book shares the uniqueness of Hawaiian Shamanism, the way of the adventurer, and how we can apply this ancient healing to our modern lives.
8. Intimacy, Trusting Oneself and the Other by Osho
Osho has so many beautiful works, but this one offers a whole new way of looking at relationships.
9. The Five Love Languages, Singles Edition by Gary Chapman
Another classic, that offers so much insight into how to consciously assert how you receive love and how to offer love to others as a result of their own preference of receiving love. A must read.
10. Vibrational Healing Through The Chakras With Light, Color, Sound And Aromatherapy by Joy Gardner
Nice and comprehensive book that shares exactly what is mentioned in the title! If you are looking to deepen you understanding of how to intentionally work with, open up and heal through your chakras.
11. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
Literally one of my favorite fiction books!! I don’t want to share too much, but the book reveals 9 spiritual insights and share the power and presence of synchronicity.
12. The Biology Of Belief by Bruce H. Lipton
For my science buffs. This book is literally eye opening with all the insights about how the cells in our body are affected by our thoughts, and beyond. Its clear an digestible though, so you won’t get too lost.
13. The Chakra Handbook, From Basic Understanding To Practical Application by Shalila Sharamon and Bodo Baginski
I come back to this book very often. It is my go-to for detailed insight into the chakras
14. Personal Power Through Awareness, A Guidebook For Sensitive People by Sanaya Roman
First of all, I love EVERYTHING she writes, so there’s that. I love this book, because it gives so much, straight forward insight into how to sense energy, protecting your energy and utilizing you awareness of your energy to transform your life. Must read.
15. Spiritual Growth, Being Your Higher Self by Sanaya Roman
This book shares insight into how to be your Higher Self in your daily life. Every chapter ends with a meditation (which I used for a 21 day meditation experience last year). Must read
Sacred Woman by Queen Afua
This book is specifically for my self identifying women readers. I read/worked through this book for the first time in 2008/09. I come back to it often. No brainer.
